Just received this tent yesterday; my husband (who has experience erecting dome tents) was able to put it up alone. I have tent camped since I was a small child, am now >50 and am no stranger to tents. This is a decent tent for the money.



The Pros:



Easy set up



Excellent "bath tub" bottom which is weld seamed ......... the bottom is polyethylene which is much more

durable than nylon taffeta which is very commonly used. The bath tub style bottom comes up about 4" from the

bottom, wrapping along all sides of the tent. It is not sewn .......... it is "welded" somehow (hot pressed glue

perhaps?); there are no thread seams on the bottom edges of the tent - very important if it rains! (" The sonic-sealed,

polyethylene tub-style floor, meanwhile, is welded and not sewn, eliminating needle holes that might otherwise attract

water seepage.") This was the primary reason I purchased this tent, other than the reasonable price.



Center height is 60" as stated which is excellent for a dome tent of this size and the other main reason

I purchased this particular tent.



Nice green/gray color which blends in with a "woodsy" environment.



Excellent ventilation for summer camping.



The Cons:



The zipper does take 2 hands. The "design defect" that one or more reviewers alluded to is actually a zipper "storm

flap" to keep rain out off the zipper. You need to NOT be in a rush and use one hand/finger to keep this storm flap

away from the zipper and your other hand to actually pull the zipper. Pretty simple: Take your time.



The interior size is slightly smaller than stated: Interior dimensions are 7'8" (4" shorter than stated) and 9'6"

(6" shorter than stated size).



Where are they gonna put the 5th person!? This is described as a "4 or 5 person tent". Huh? Our sleeping bags are

32" across. Most sleeping bags measure 28" - 34". You do the math.............! We have 2 twin size air mattresses in

the tent right now, with our sleeping bags. It would hold a 3rd person, but wow, would that be tight! How do you step

in and turn around without falling on or stepping on someone else? Very comfortable for 2 people and a small amount

of gear. It would be tight with 3 people if all wanted air mattresses, and almost impossible with 4 people.



The "2 room design" is a joke. I did not purchase it for the "2 room" concept, and I don't intend to use it. The room

divider is merely a sheet of nylon taffeta to suspend from the ceiling. If you are using a light in the tent you are clearly

visible through the divider and from the outside. Pretty standard for any nylon taffeta tent.



The tent entry way is cumbersome. Because of the "two room" design/theory, there are two zippers. Each comes from

the bottom, outside corner up to the top center. The zipper does not go in one large semi-circle (180 degree arc), nor from one

bottom corner up and around to the opposite top corner like most tents. This makes the entryway a bit "snug" and some

may find it bothersome. It was not a deal-breaker for me, but a bit weird.



I would prefer a larger rainfly with greater coverage. The rainfly which comes with this tent barely covers the large

ventilation windows along the sides of the tent. A rainstorm/thunderstorm is going to put this rainfly to the test and I

suspect water may come in along the sides in the event of a very windy storm.



Other:



The "Weather Armor polyester with a polyurethane coating" is imperceptible, probably because it has to be breathable.

I would like it to SEEM more waterproof; the nylon taffeta does not really need to be breathable on this tent IMO, because

this tent has impressively large ventilation areas along the side walls, front and back windows and mid-roof. It would be

reassuring if the walls were a bit more sturdy and at least appeared more waterproof, but this is certainly not unusual for

modern tent designs, unless you spring for an super expensive, rare canvas tent. Time will tell if the tent is waterproof

and can stand up to a thunderstorm. I will try to update this sometime and let you know!



Update: This tent has been up in our "mini woods" on our property now for 2 weeks straight. During that time we have had three thunderstorms, one in which water came down in sheets, producing 2" of rain in 20 minutes. Two of the other thunderstorms had impressive winds. The tent took on just a tiny bit of water near the front opening; I am assuming it came in thru the zipper or perhaps leaked down from the rainfly and entered along the doorway. I do not have a separate tarp over the tent but I did apply 2 entire cans of Scotchguard tent weather-proofer on it.

This Tee-pee worked out perfect for me. I took it out for a week long camping trip and one night it rained enough to where I was hoping this thing would float. Not a drop of water got in (seams are all taped) and I stayed cozy all night.



Few things to note, it does take a little longer to set up than the typical pin-and-pole tent, but it's worth it in the end. This latest model has a fully attached floor (unlike the older model)

I recently started backpacking again after a brief hiatus (3 kids) and realized I needed to update some of my gear. One piece of which was to replace my 22 year old Moss two person 4 season tent (12 lbs). I narrowed my selection down to 4 tent brands (Big Agnes, Sierra Design, MSR and REI) based on size, weight and price. I came across the Morrison tent as a suggested option from Amazon and the sale price caught my eye. I have bought Mountainsmith gear in the past and always liked their quality. Looking at online reviews (found about 40-50, Backpacker Magazine called it the "killer deal for 2011"), most people were very positive about it. Photos and specs gave the impression that it was constructed equivalent to other brands and wasn't a bargain basement, off-brand, big box store cheapo tent. The tent comes in at 4 lb 11 oz, which is about 3/4 lb more than the Big Agnes Copper Spur ($400-$500) and a little less than a half pound more than the REI Quarter Dome ($190) and Sierra Design HT ($279).



I have always had a discriminating taste for outdoor gear (paid $500+ for Moss tent in 92) and most of my buddies don't spare the expense either. So, upon arriving I opened the tent and was still impressed by the quality of the fabric and construction. The tent has two doors and with the fly on it has two vestibules. The tent has a lot of mesh to allow for good airflow on hot nights. However, there is a layer of fabric behind the mesh on both doors. I am not sure why the included it because the fabric and zippers together probably weigh 4-8 oz. I spoke to Mountainsmith and they said the fabric was not structural and could be removed (I am considering). Overall the tent is easy to assemble and has color coded poles to speed up assembly. The tent also uses clips to attach the poles which will help airflow on warm nights. The footprint of the tent is also a whopping 56" x 92" compared to the Copper Spur (52x90), Quarter Dome (52 x 85) and the SD H2 (50 x 83). Other tents of comparable sized footprints made my MSR, Mountain Hardwear, North Face and Big Agnes were much heavier (+5lbs) than this tent. I expect to strictly use this as a two person tent for backpacking and splitting up the gear to ease the weight. Although heavier than some of its competitors, you cannot match the quality, size and price of this tent.



I finally had this tent out in a massive thunderstorm that blew up and dumped 1-2 inches of rain in 1 hour. I was at a shelter away from the camp when it hit. Apparently a 2-3 inch sheet flow of rain went right to the tent (I believe it based on the debris) and stayed around it for the entire hour. Everyone at camp that saw it thought there would be 2 inches of water inside. When I got back to camp and saw the debris and heard the story I knew my gear would be soaked. However, I was completely surprised and pleased to see it was bone dry. There was some splash up on the sidewalls (It seriously rained like crazy), but it did not affect the inside. I think if I had cranked down the fly a little more it would not have been a problem.

This is the third model of pop up tent that I have tried and so far my favorite. The company advertises it as a four person, but I would say more of a three person ( unless you like it close up). The ability to open the rain fly on it is superior to the other two models that I own. I plan to sell one of the others and buy another Coleman. I would guess that the two person that they make is just a good but probably a 1.5 person. The reason I like pop up tents is that I usually sleep under the stars on my canoe trips, but in the case of rain and little time to setup, this tent is instant. Love that!

So, this is a tiny tent. However I needed a tiny tent for Burning Man, one that would fit in the back of my pick-up truck, and the width and length of this one was perfect for the truck and for me (I'm 5'7).



Yes, it's tiny. But this tent basically became a big bed - a nest of sorts. And even though the rainfly is tiny, it held up just fine with the rain. AND it held up ok to dust at Burning Man because it had only a tiny amount of mesh!



So, know what you want. This was fine for me, and I kept my big backpack outside. That was ok for me. It packs up tiny and was perfect because it was easy to put together solo.

Im not an avid "camper" and until yesterday never owned a camping tent. I been scouring amazon and youtube for tents and than headed out to dicks sporting good and picked this up to go camping with my daughter and sister over the july 4th weekend comming up. The tent was much cheaper than listed here on amazon so I picked up 2 just for a spare.



Couldn't wait so I grabbed my wife and we set this up in the backyard. After eyeballing the directions, according to my watch, we put it together in 19 mins and neither of us ever set up a camping tent before, Came with 10 metal stakes, we used four.



Me and my daughter (she is 4) slept out overnight Im 6ft and I can fit okey with about a half foot extra leg room. Its been hot and humid the past few days and as a bonus, A few hours after setting up, it got windy than started raining. So I was real happy to test this out. The inside stayed perfectly dry throughout the night. Wind did pick up a little. Not a problem. The vents allowed excellent circulation with fair amount of privacy.



Because the kids kept climbing in and out of it earlier in the day we got some skeeters inside the tent. I used bug spray and they were gone. Once we were zipped in, the meshed vents had absolutly no problem keeping them out.



Some neat little features:

Has hook inside at top of dome for hanging led light that worked out perfect.

two small hanging mesh bags, they'll hold stuff like wallets, small camera, cell phone, small flashlight. Things like that. Has opening for power chord if necessary.

Because my daughter so tiny I had plenty of room to store equiptment inside if necessary but with two adults keeping your gear inside wont be an option. I would say count your gear as a person and buy a tent size accordingly.

Very decent head room.

has one entrance easy to get in and out of.



The bottom does come up several inches so have to be careful its a trip hazzard but will work great to keep water up to a couple of inches out. The zippers are flapped over to prevent water from leaking in. I noticed some mention this on reivews from other tents.



Im most positive this is as durable as any other coleman tent. So long as its taken care of properly Im sure it will last for at least several more camping trips over the next couple of years, probably longer.

REAR BUILT-IN STORAGE CUBBIES:

The back wall of the tent has no windows but it does have two extended duffel size (2'wx2'dx8-14"h[graduated]) storage compartments and inside of those compartments are screen windows with internal zippers and external eave coverage. The screen windows are approx. 1" off the ground so this is definitely not the side of the tent you want facing uphill if you even suspect a light rain may occur. Other reviewers had difficulty understanding why there were screen windows in these cubbies, even speculating they cause a safety concern for theft or flawed attempts at cross ventilation. As a parent of young children, I'm going to address this with what was automatically obvious for us as our kids climbed inside and immediately zipped themselves up inside those storage cubbies. The windows are there for SAFETY...if a young child or animal is stuck in there without a vent, they would cook quickly inside - not to mention your deodorant or other goodies you may have stored in your bag inside of the cubby.

The base of the tent is the standard tarp-type material used in most tents and the seams where it is sewn to the sides of the tent are at ground level; this is NOT a "bathtub" style tent floor which has the floor go a few inches up the inside of the tent to allow it to keep water out if it accumulates as in a heavy downpour of rain. In other words, double check the forecast and if there is a chance of anything more than mist - you need a different tent or to add another tarp under this tent and clip it up the sides on the outside to help keep water flow out.



WINDOWS:

The side windows are triangles with the top tip pointed out at an approx. 35' angle from the tent, allowing moisture to run off the tent rather than in the window. Zipper closure is two zippers meeting at internal top point; this does add an additional secure line to ground on each side of the tent to keep it at that angle. The entire roof of this tent is a vent, made of screen material with the exception of a center solid support that runs both across the width and length of the tent [+]. There are roof eave triangle vents on either side above the side triangle windows. The front window with the # design gives the screen material support to prevent it from sagging as well as helping to minimize damage if you have a run in the fabric that tears open (it is not strictly for aesthetics as some others have concluded); it has 2 internal zippers down either side and the zippers stop at such a point that there is an additional 6" of window screen that is covered by the material and does not allow air flow due to this [design flaw]. *NOTE: vents do not have zippers/are not manually able to be closed and must rely on the tent fly for coverage; windows can be zippered to close

My husband set this up by himself in 40 minutes following directions to a T with 3 kids running circles around him. I had expected from reviews that he would need my assistance but this simply was not the case.



DESIGN: The light color material used on the majority of the tent reflects light and reduces heating passively through this. I like that the tent has only a single door and our children who will be sleeping in the portion of the tent without the door will need to wake us up to get out of the tent at night; this reassures me to my family's safety; if you have grown children or only adults camping, consider this. Each of the two rooms is equivalent in size and fits a queen size bed with walking room around one side as well as an area large enough to stand to get dressed and store bags or a cooler at foot or head of the bed. The sides of the tent are pretty close to perpendicular with the ground so you are less likely to accidentally brush against it and break the moisture seal at night, letting in condensation from dew.



IMPROVEMENTS: I wish there were ties to string up our lantern or flashlight pockets inside, it is large enough to need a light at night and that would've been convenient. The top edge of the tent sags inward above the window and door due to lack of support...a simple support lengthwise across the tent would easily fix this issue.

REAR BUILT-IN STORAGE CUBBIES:

The back wall of the tent has no windows but it does have two extended duffel size (2'wx2'dx8-14"h[graduated]) storage compartments and inside of those compartments are screen windows with internal zippers and external eave coverage. The screen windows are approx. 1" off the ground so this is definitely not the side of the tent you want facing uphill if you even suspect a light rain may occur. Other reviewers had difficulty understanding why there were screen windows in these cubbies, even speculating they cause a safety concern for theft or flawed attempts at cross ventilation. As a parent of young children, I'm going to address this with what was automatically obvious for us as our kids climbed inside and immediately zipped themselves up inside those storage cubbies. The windows are there for SAFETY...if a young child or animal is stuck in there without a vent, they would cook quickly inside - not to mention your deodorant or other goodies you may have stored in your bag inside of the cubby.

Great Tent, upgraded from a 3 man to this for more room(with 2-4 people) and its perfect.



Can easily fit a queen and twin air matresses, (2 queens as stated will fit but its very tight).

1 queen with bags/equip leaves still plenty of room(usually how i use it.)



Outside screened porch is awesome. great design for you to relax outside but not get bug-bitten. Great place to keep any other outside belongings overnight also. Porch is same plastic bottom as the rest of the tent floor, with drainage for any water/rain. Rainfly doesnt cover all of the porch, but a good amount of it, over half. (screened area WILL get wet during hard rain/wind).



Tent holds up in rain well, had 2 hours of torrential downpour first time i used it, and stayed 99% dry, (after 2 hours the inside of the rainfly at the top was slightly wet, and the wind-side seam had a few drops.) nothing seamsealer/waterproof spray wouldn't prevent. tub-floor stayed totally dry also. winds reached 20mph during the rain, (gusts even higher) and tent held up fine.



One thing that people may not like is the backwall/window, which is screened from the top of the tent to half way down, with no zip-close flap. provides lots of circulation, but as another reviewer said, sometimes it isn't a good thing. I dont mind it, the rainfly covers the entire window completely and then some. The side windows are a good size screen, with zipper close flaps.



May upload pictures/video of the tent for better perspective. If your upgrading from a smaller tent, and liked the porch, and the cost isn't too big of a concern, then i would hands down get this tent again. I think its well worth the money.

As a first-time backpacker/camper, I bought this tent based on customer reviews for last year's model. I have to say, I could not be more pleased with how easy this tent was to set up. I set this tent up in 5-10 minutes after a very quick skim of the instructions -- and I had never set a tent up in my life. It's literally two poles and a few color-coded clips and, voila! I was one of the first out of 20 in camp to have my tent up, and this includes a few veteran campers.



I didn't read the instructions on how to attach the rain fly, thinking I wouldn't need it on my trip; however, with a 30% chance of rain, I had to set this up with no instructions. This, too, was very intuitive for a beginner.



I found this tent to be very light and didn't add much weight to my backpack at about 4lbs, 10oz packed. The 2 gear pockets and hooks were great for storing my stuff, and the zippers were smooth and pretty quiet. My tent was smaller than a few others' 2-person tents, but I am 5' 1", so room was not an issue for me. I think most people know that 2-person tents fit 2 snugly anyway.



Just as the reviews of last year's model stated, the stakes leave a bit to be desired. They bend quite easily, but I was glad they were included. It should be a while before I have to replace them.



It ended up not raining that night, so I'll update my review once I camp with this in inclement weather. Overall verdict -- Great tent!

I have been waiting for this rainfly to be back in stock for months. The very first time I went camping with it, it rained. It worked just great execept for one flaw in the design. If you look at the photo of this tent with the rain fly on it, you will notice that the base of the tent extends outward. What that means is that whenever you open the door flap to enter or exit, the water on the rainfly drips onto the floor of the tent. This could have been easily avoide by the addition of a small awning or extension from the fly which would have caused the water to fall outside the tent rather than into it. I put an old rug just inside to door to catch the runoff and by removing our shoes at this point we don't track mud or water into the tent. I love this tent, and am still happy to have the rainfly in spite of the problem I have described.

I am 6.2 and 220 lbs. I had to sleep diagonal in this tent. I should have checked the dimensions before I bought it. It is a 2 child tent not a 2 person tent lol. It is small and light when folded up and the tent itself is the bag for the stakes/tent poles. It is a great hiking tent and I am happy with it. For 20 bux when it breaks I will get a different one, but I am satisfied for now.



The rain fly is very small and I suggest getting a tarp or large bags to actually keep the rain out. The outer tent is NOT water proof so you would have to cover the entire tent if you want to keep the rain out. That is why I give this 4 stars.
